Lavender Blue Granite

Description

Lavender Blue granite is a light to dark blue-grey gneiss with flaser texture and up to pie-sized, red garnets. This stone internationally may be nominated as a granite but in the area of application of the European Standard this stone must be nominated as a gneiss. The veining and colour varies considerably and a small sample of Lavender Blue granite may not be representative of the whole slab therefore swatch samples must be approved for large projects to ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. During the polishing process a clear epoxy resin filler may be used to fill any micro fissures or tiny pitting however this does not affect the integrity of the stone, it merely provides an even smoother surface finish. Lavender Blue Granite is suitable for both interior and exterior use futhermore is frost resistant and with a constant polish.

Gneiss

A high grade metamorphic rock. This means that gneiss has been subjected to more heat and pressure than schist. Gneiss is coarser than schist and has distinct banding. This banding has alternating layers that are composed of different minerals. The minerals that compose gneiss are the same as granite. Feldspar is the most important mineral that makes up gneiss along with mica and quartz. Gneiss can be formed from a sedimentary rock such as sandstone or shale, or it can be formed from the metamorphism of the igneouse rock grantite. Gneiss can be used by man as paving and building stone.

Quarry Blocks

These are quarries yielding several, selectable, grades of granite with blocks suitable for gangsaw size down to economical tile-sized and monument blocks. It is not known when extraction commenced however could be the 1980s. For commercial projects it is important to ensure that blocks are selected from the same quarry face.

Rough blocks are usually exported by Break Bulk however intermodal containerisation is available at extra cost. Finished products are packed into sea-worthy wooden crates and loaded into containers.
